International Cat Day

They're furry, independent, full of sass and vibrate like no one's business. We love cats and what better time to celebrate our furry overlords than with 'International Cat Day'?

Wednesday 8th August is ‘International Cat Day’, a cat-tastic time to reflect and celebrate the bond between cat and human, but also, to advocate for their care and protection.

They bring so much to our lives and ask for so little in return – just non-stop scratches (but not too many, don’t be clingy), delicious food from a full bowl (not half-full, don’t disrespect them like that), world domination and your full and undivided attention at 3 am in the morning.

Okay… so maybe they have a few requests from their humans.

Everyone can make a difference in a cat’s life. For example, you can:

  • Adopt: RSPCA ACT always have felines of all ages available for adoption. Our Animal Care Assistants can help you find the best feline for your household. Visit the Weston shelter or view their profiles at www.adoptapet.com.au.
  • Donate: RSPCA ACT had over 1,700 cats come through its doors in 2017/18 – that’s A LOT of cats! You can help us care for them by making a tax-deductible donation to www.rspca-act.org.au/donate.
  • Volunteer: Volunteering at the RSPCA ACT shelter and fundraising events are a great way to lend a helping hand. Volunteers have a range of responsibilities including animal care, administration, maintenance and socialisation. Find out more by visiting: www.rspca-act.org.au/get-involved/volunteer.
  • Be responsible: If you have a furry companion of your own, please be a responsible pet owner by ensuring they’re microchipped, desexed, desexed and taking your cat for regular vet checks. Make their health a priority and book in your cat’s annual check-up.  Providing them with healthy food and plenty of stimulation. A bored cat is a destructive cat!
  • Finally, give them the love and attention they deserve. Animals are for life, make sure when you adopt you’re committed for their entire lifespan. They’re worth it!
