RSPCA ACT & Canberra Raiders launch Pet Program

The Canberra Raiders have today launched their official ‘Pet Program’ in partnership with RSPCA ACT. It’s the first time the Raiders have given members and fans the opportunity for their pets to be part of the Raiders family, with the partnership with the RSPCA allowing pets to become Raiders fans. For just $45 you can sign up your pet to be part of the Green Machine family in 2018, with $20 of this amount pledged towards the RSPCA to assist in their protection of welfare of animals. RSPCA ACT Achieves 90% Rehoming Rate for Canines and Felines in 2016/17

RSPCA ACT had another outstanding year for animal welfare outcomes, surpassing expectations again. During the financial year, 4063 domestic animals came into care at the Weston shelter. This number is very similar to last year’s statistics. Last week RSPCA ACT Inspectors obtained their 30th successful Animal Ownership Ban and the second prison term for animal cruelty charges in three years. RSPCA ACT is welcoming the sentence handed down by Magistrate Boss last week regarding a Staffordshire Terrier named ‘Cooper.’ Cooper was hit by a car and his owner, Ms Charie O’Reilly, neglected to seek medical treatment for his injuries. A friend of Ms O’Reilly’s took it upon themselves to bring Cooper to a vet in the Woden area. The vet then got in contact with Ms O’Reilly regarding the dog’s injuries. On examination, the dog had a

ACT Greyhound Muzzle Law Repealed RSPCA ACT would like to congratulate the ACT Government for repealing the enforcement of the Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) of greyhounds in the ACT. Previously by law, greyhounds needed to be muzzled when in public unless they went through a special assessment program. Furthermore, there was a restriction on the number of greyhounds that could be walked at the same time. Higgins Woman Found Guilty After RSPCA ACT Seized Dog with Chain Embedded in Throat Higgins resident, Hena Felila, was found guilty last week for failure to take reasonable steps to provide an animal with appropriate treatment for injury and the confinement of an animal in a way that caused injury to an animal. On the 28th June 2016, the Inspectors were called to Ms Felila’s house after concerns were raised for a large mixed breed dog that was tethered to a tree with no shelter or access to water.
