Animal Care Assistant

Part time

RSPCA ACT is looking for energetic & motivated people to join our team of animal care assistants.   We are looking for applicants with EXTRAORDINARY customer service experience, basic knowledge of animal care and handling, and a genuine interest in animals and their welfare.  You will be required to be flexible as you will be called upon to work in our customer service team in the Pet Adoption Centre and retail shop. You will also be trained to work in cattery, kennels, with other domestic animals or with wildlife at times. If you enjoy variety and have a passion for animal welfare, then this may be the position for you.

  • Qualifications/experience in Animal Studies and handling is highly desirable.
  • Physical and mental fitness is imperative! Working with animals is hard physical work and can be mentally demanding. 

ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Outline your previous employment experience, including previous work in a customer service-oriented field.
  2. Provide examples of your experience in animal care and handling.
  3. Please write a statement explaining why we should employ you. To assist in preparing your statement, some things we would like to know about you are: why you want to work for us, your teamwork and people skills, how you have shown initiative, and how you communicate effectively with others.

This is a base-level position.  Salary and conditions of employment are in line with the Animal Care and Veterinary Services Award 2020 Level 1.
