How Foster Carers help animals:

Before animals can be adopted from RSPCA ACT they need to be desexed, microchipped, wormed and vaccinated. While they wait to be medically cleared for adoption, living with a foster carer in a loving home can be a much better alternative to staying at the shelter. Sometimes the shelter environment can be stressful for animals.

Young animals need to wait until they are a certain age to be desexed, rather than spending several weeks at the shelter. During this time the animal would benefit from staying in a warm, safe home.

RSPCA ACT relies on our foster carer network, without them we would not have the space to accept all the animals who need our help. The more foster carers we have, the more animals we can help.

What do potential foster carers for RSPCA ACT need:

  • A big heart
  • Time, availability and flexibility
  • Can provide a safe and secure space
  • Have 24-hour access to transport
  • Attend and complete foster caring training
  • Are aged 18 or older

RSPCA ACT will supply you with:

  • Food
  • Litter (for cats)
  • Bedding
  • Veterinary medication
  • Free access, visits, and treatment to our veterinarians
  • Enrichment for animals
  • Behavioural advice
  • All the help we can offer you to make your foster caring journey a success

As you can see, we give you everything you need to make the animals comfortable, we just need you to give them a loving home.
