TRANSPORTING ANIMALS

Please keep found animals with you if possible. This can be in your yard or a cat carrier, until you are able to contact RSPCA ACT, Domestic Animal Services or a local vet. We may be able to coordinate the return of the pet to its owner without you having to bring it to our shelter. If you are unable to look after a lost pet until it can be reunited with its owner, Domestic Animal Services have an after-hours drop off facilities with limited capacity.

LOOKING FOR A LOST PET
  • Conduct a thorough search of your property and surrounding neighbourhood.
  • Check with neighbours and people in your area. Sometimes animals can be locked inside a neighbouring house, garage or garden shed by mistake.
  • Enquire with veterinary clinics, starting with those in your local area and work outwards.
  • Post a lost/found message on Canberra Lost Pets Database (Facebook) as well as Community Noticeboard groups.
  • When lodging a lost report, provide as much information about your pet as possible, such as: the area your pet went missing, breed and colour of your pet, age, distinguishing features and details of collar and/or I.D. Be sure to list a contact number.
  • Please remove all posters and inform all others who were aware of the search when the animal has been found.
