Clear The Shelter – FAQs
What is the promotion?

From Friday 25th and Saturday 26th October adoption fees will be subsidised thanks to the success of our recent Give to Get Them Home fundraiser and generous donation by Songland Records. During this period, adoption fees will be:

  • Adult Dogs* - $50 (normally from $395)
  • Adult Cats*- $50 (normally from $195)
  • Rabbits - $20 (normally $80)
  • Pigeons - FREE
  • Roosters – FREE

All dogs, cats and rabbits adopted during this promotion will receive a care package to help ease their transition into their new home.

Why are you running this promotion?

Right now, RSPCA ACT has 271 animals in care. We have had fewer people visiting the shelter over the last month resulting in lower adoptions, but we continue to see an increase of animals needing our help.

Lowering the adoption fees is a way to incentivise those who are interested in adopting to come into our Shelter and meet our incredible pets.

Normal adoption procedures apply with our expert team endeavouring to find the best possible matches for all our animals

How do I know who is looking for a home?

All animals available for adoption can be viewed on our website.

Our website shows photos, information on their personality and what type of home they are looking for.

You can give our friendly team a call on 02 6287 8100 or visit our Shelter between 10am and 3pm (Monday – Saturday).

Only dogs and cats 6 months or older are included in this promotion. Kittens will remain at $350 and Puppies from $550.

If lowering the adoption fee helps get animals adopted, why don’t you do this all the time?

All animals who arrive in our care are given full veterinary assessments and essential veterinary care such as vaccinations, parasite prevention, microchipping and desexing. 13% of animals require additional surgical intervention with even more requiring additional medical treatment and behavioural rehabilitation.

As a charity, our small adoption fees help support some of the care provided to these animals, with the remainder of their care being funded by the generous support of our local community.

We impose no time or price limits on any of the animals we care for. We will continue invest all the resources necessary to prepare them for their second chance at life.

How do you know the animals are going to suitable homes?

Our team are adoption experts, helping find more than 2,000 animals homes each year.

It is our highest priority at RSPCA ACT to ensure all animals find their best match to ensure all their needs can be met.

Based off the individual pets’ needs, our team will ensure any potential family can meet their needs and verse versa. Our team will provide all the relevant information regarding the animal they are interested in and ask a variety of questions. Meet and greets will occur to ensure that everyone gets along.

Following the adoption, our team will be in touch to ensure everything is well.

Our team are happy to provide post adoption support over the phone to answer any questions or address concerns.

We understand that some people many worry about animals be returned. With our experience we have not seen an increase in animals being returned after these promotions, as our standard adoption processes remain the same.

If for whatever reason the adoption does not work out, RSPCA ACT will always accept adopted animals back into our care.

I can’t make it in on those dates. Can I place an animal on hold?

RSPCA ACT cannot place an animal on hold, as this could prevent them to going to their new home sooner. The reduced adoption fees are only applicable for adoptions adopted on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th of October. We cannot extend this promotion.

What happens to animals who aren’t adopted?

RSPCA ACT does not impose time limits on any animal. Any animals that remain in care after the promotion, will continue to do so until we can find them their suitable forever home.

Terms and conditions
  • This promotion is only valid at RSPCA ACT’s Weston Creek Shelter. This adoption promotion is not valid for adoptions made at Petbarn stores.

Why are there only a small number of animals available, I thought the shelter was full?

We have more than 240 animals currently in our care, however only those animals declared healthy and sociable enough are available for adoption. The remaining animals could be recovering or waiting for surgery, receiving other care and treatment or subject to legal matters.
