RSPCA ACT is looking to expand the expertise in our Dog Training Services School.

We are looking for enthusiastic & experienced dog trainers to contract their skills to RSPCA ACT. This will be primarily to conduct group sessions with clients and their dogs. But also to evolve our training programs, in conjunction with our Dog Training Services Coordinator, to one-one classes to address specific common behavioural challenges, and also refresher and group consolidation classes.

What RSPCA ACT requires:

  • Certification from a dog training accrediting agency, such as the Delta Society or the National Dog Trainers Federation (NDTF), or equivalent
  • Sound knowledge of dog training techniques using positive reinforcement training methods and knowledge of current trends
  • Have a current Working with Vulnerable Peoples registration
  • Ability to follow current curriculum, but also contribute feedback for the development of the curriculum.
  • Sound knowledge & understanding of animal behaviour and body language.
  • Proven experience working as a dog trainer.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong dog handling skills.
  • A love for dogs AND their people.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to provide clear instruction and advice to the general public, community groups, stakeholders and children.
  • Ability to train other people and impart knowledge, including mentoring less experienced dog trainers.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with a diversity of individuals from both within and outside RSPCA ACT.
  • Some flexibility around working weekends and evenings
  • A passion for animal welfare.
