Kennel cleaner

The role as a kennel cleaner is critical for the wellbeing and happiness of dogs and puppies living at the shelter and includes cleaning and feeding. This role is to assist staff in making sure the living arrangements for all our animals are pleasant, safe and sanitary.

Shift time: 08:30-10:30

Key Duties:

  • Cleaning/hosing of the kennels, yards and recreational areas
  • Replenishing water, food, bedding and toys 
  • Laundry tasks including washing, drying and folding blankets
  • Washing of equipment, food bowls, enrichment items and toys
  • Reporting and communicating any signs of illness, injury or behaviour matters to animal care staff.
Kennel socialiser

In the Kennel socialisation role, the volunteer comes in to spend time with our dogs and puppies in the shelter. Daily positive human interaction, including handling & cuddles, with a variety of different volunteers increases the likelihood of a successful adoption.

Shift times: 13:30-15:30

Key Duties:

  • Handling and socialisation of dogs and puppies, includes appropriate play
  • Reporting and communicating any signs of illness, injury or behaviour matters to animal care staff.
Dog walker

A dog walker provides our dogs with stimulation and exercise. Both are crucial to the dogs’ physical and mental wellbeing. Commitment to a regular weekly or fortnightly shift is key for this role. 

Shift times: 8:30-10:30; 13:30-15:30 (afternoon walks for colder months only)

Key Duties

  • Walking the dogs on designated paths around the RSPCA ACT shelter
  • Spending some off-lead time in the exercise yards
  • Reporting and communicating any signs of illness, injury or behaviour matters to animal care staff
