** Any medication dispensed may incur a cost.  Referrals for follow up exams, diagnosis and treatment may incur a cost. 

We welcome all eligible Canberrans to attend, however some services will require a booking, and spaces are limited, so book your pet’s appointment in advance.  Some walk in appointments may be available on the day, but will incur a wait time.  Advance bookings are recommended. 

Access to parasite prevention, grooming, dog training and behaviour advice, and pet food and goods do not require a booking.

Am I eligible? 

To access RSPCA ACT’s Healthy Pet Day services, you must meet the following criteria: 

  • Present a valid concession or health care card; or be a client of our Community Pet Pantry partners; and
  • Reside in the local Canberra region; and
  • Be 18 years old or over 

If you do not meet the above criteria, unfortunately you will not be eligible to access services at this event.  Bookings that do not fit this eligibility criteria will be cancelled. 

Is my pet eligible? 

Healthy Pet Day is open to dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens, directly owned by eligible clients.   

The following animals are not permitted: 

  • All species other than dogs and cats
  • Litters of puppies or kittens*
  • Aggressive animals
  • Highly reactive animals who may pose a danger to other animals or people in attendance 

All pets in attendance must be contained at all times – dogs on leads, cats in carriers. 

* Litters of puppies or kittens are unable to be seen at Healthy Pet Day.  If you need assistance with an unplanned litter of puppies or kittens, please contact RSPCA ACT on 02 6287 8100 to discuss our Last Litter Program.

Eligibility - clients

  • Bookings that do not fit this eligibility criteria will be cancelled. 
Eligibility – pets
  • RSPCA ACT’s Health Pet Day services are available only to pets directly owned by eligible clients.
  • Eligible animal types are:
    • Dogs
    • Puppies
    • Cats
    • Kittens
  • Ineligible animals are:
    • All species other than dogs and cats
    • Litters of puppies or kittens
    • Aggressive animals
    • Highly reactive animals who may pose a danger to other animals or people in attendance.
    • Animals with known or suspected contagious disease who may pose a risk of infection for other animals in attendance.
    • Animals with urgent or emergent medical concerns (instead contact RSPCA ACT during business hours or seek care at another vet as soon as possible).

  • The following services will be on offer at RSPCA ACT’s Healthy Pet Day:
    • Vaccinations
    • Microchipping
    • Parasite prevention
    • Preventative health checks (veterinary exams and health assessment)
    • Grooming (nail clips, eye area trims)
    • Dog behaviour and training advice
    • Free pet food (limited)
    • Free pet goods (limited)
  • The following services will not be on offer at RSPCA ACT’s Healthy Pet Day:
    • Treatment of health conditions on the day
    • Dispensing of prescription medication
    • Euthanasia 
Bookings
  • Bookings are limited, and are required for preventative health checks, vaccinations, and microchips.
  • All other services offered at RSPCA ACT Healthy Pet Day do not require a booking.
  • A separate booking is required for each pet. 
Cancellations
  • If you have booked a Healthy Pet Day service and can no longer attend, email outreach@rspca-act.org.au to cancel your booking as soon as possible.
  • Failure to attend your booking may result in your ineligibility for future RSPCA ACT services. 
Safety and appropriate behaviour
  • All animals in attendance must be contained.
    • Dogs must be on a lead, securely attached to a collar or harness at all times.
    • Small dogs or puppies may instead be contained in a secure carrier at all times.
    • Cats and kittens must be contained in a secure carrier at all times.  To reduce stress, it is recommended to cover the carrier with a towel (or similar).
  • Animals must not be left unattended at any time.
  • Animals must not be left unattended in vehicles during the event.
  • All staff, volunteers and attendees must be treated with respect.  Any form of verbal or physical abuse towards staff, volunteers, or other attendees will not be tolerated.  Any attendees who are abusive will be asked to leave immediately, and will be ineligible for future RSPCA ACT services.
  • Any animal that is deemed to pose a risk to other people or animals in attendance will be asked to leave immediately, for the safety of all others. 
Costs
  • The above services provided at RSPCA ACT’s Healthy Pet Day are free of charge.
  • Treatment/medication deemed necessary (for the immediate relief of suffering) may incur a cost.
  • Referrals for follow up exams, diagnosis, treatment and procedures may incur a cost.   
Post-treatment pet health
  • Pets should be monitored for any adverse effects post-veterinary treatment.  Clients concerned about their pet’s health after receiving Healthy Pet Day services should contact:
    • RSPCA ACT during normal business hours on 02 6287 8100
    • An emergency vet outside of normal business hours
  • Whilst RSPCA ACT will take all possible care of animals at Healthy Pet Day, RSPCA ACT is not responsible for any illness, injury or death which may occur as a result of services provided, or any associated costs.
