About the Role

As an Inspector, you will be at the frontline of enforcing the Animal Welfare Act 1992 (ACT). You’ll investigate reports of animal cruelty, conduct rescues, educate the public, and work with our Inspectorate team to pursue prosecutions when necessary. This is a dynamic and rewarding role that combines law enforcement, community engagement, and animal welfare.

You’ll be part of a supportive team, working across the ACT. The role could include weekend work, including some events, and is based out of Weston, ACT

Key Responsibilities

  • Enforce the Animal Welfare Act 1992 (ACT)
  • Investigate reports of animal cruelty and emergency welfare situations
  • Collect and document evidence for potential prosecutions
  • Seize and transport animals in accordance with legal powers
  • Prepare and submit briefs of evidence and attend court proceedings
  • Build positive and productive relationships with community and government stakeholders.
  • Educate the public on responsible pet ownership and animal care
  • Promote preventative strategies through community engagement

What We’re Looking For

  • Investigative or compliance experience (law enforcement, regulatory, etc.)
  • Strong communication, mediation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to remain compassionate and resilient in challenging situations
  • High level of mental and emotional resilience, with the ability to manage distressing cases and maintain professionalism
  • Excellent written and computer skills
  • Demonstrated animal handling and welfare experience
  • Certificate IV in Government Investigations (or willingness to obtain)
  • Current driver’s licence (essential)
  • Good physical fitness and health
  • Police Check and pre-employment medical required
