If your cat unexpectedly presents as pregnant or gives birth, don’t panic! You can always call RSPCA ACT for some helpful advice on what to do next.
It is important to ensure that while your cat is nursing her kittens, that she is kept strictly indoors in a safe environment. You may consider turning a spare room into a mum and baby haven while she nurses her new bundles of joy.
Provide your cat with a warm and cosy place for her to nest and provide her with a good quality “Mum and Baby” or “Kitten” diet so that she may be able to provide her babies with the best nutrients.
It is vital for that kittens receive their mother’s milk for as long as possible (they will naturally wean after about eight weeks) as it contains nutrients that are necessary for their health and immunity.
RSPCA ACT offers our Last Litter program to those in need of desexing their mum cats. To qualify for this program, you will need to surrender the entire litter of kittens to RSPCA ACT for rehoming, and we desex your mother cat for a fee of $50.
